Myanmar tourists book trips to Thailand over water festival

Myanmar tourists this year seem more interest in visiting Kanchanaburi in Thailand over the Thingyan new year and water festival, according to local tour operators.

“More than 40 people have booked for a Kanchanaburi tour during Thingyan, Myanmar’s New Year holidays. Special transportation to Kanchanburi is being arranged for local tourists while they are visiting Dawei area,” said Htein Win, an agent from Dawei Tourism.

A Kanchanaburi tour will cost Ks 150,000 (US$ 150) for two days and one night. The trip will include famous sights of the area over the Thingyan holiday, which runs from April 12 to April 17.

The trip package will allow tourists to visit the entire province of Kanchanaburi using only a border pass issued at Htikee, a trade zone which opened last year on the Myanmar-Thai border.

Kanchanaburi town is located 100 miles east of Dawei. Buses and minivans are running daily between Dawei to Htikee.
