The one-day conference was held under the theme "Leveraging Livelihood of the People inMyanmar", highlighting approaches to enhancing people-to-people communicationbetween China and Myanmar, plan of action for practical cooperation between Chinese andMyanmar NGOs as well as non-governmental efforts for building a good environment insupport of China-Myanmar economic cooperation.
The conference was jointly organized by Center for Strategic & International Studies(CSIS) of Myanmar Development Resource Institute (MDRI) and China NGO Network forInternational Exchanges (CNIE), attended by about 100 participants from NGOs, businesscircles and scholars of both Myanmar and China.
In his opening remark, Li Jinjun, executive vice-president of China NGO Network forInternational Exchanges, said that NGOs of the two countries need to work together fortheir joint development and there are still many sectors for cooperation between China andMyanmar.
In an interview with Xinhua, U Ko Ko Hlaing, chief political advisor to Myanmar presidentas well as chairman of MDRI-CSIS, said that the conference will promote mutualunderstanding and cooperation between the people of the two countries.
It is sure that cooperation between local and international NGOs, Chinese NGOs inparticular, can effectively enhance education, health, rural development and livelihoods ofMyanmar people, he added.
The first China-Myanmar Roundtable Conference on Peoples' Exchanges was held inKunming, capital city of southwest China's Yunnan Province, in May 2013.
