Unilever receives licence to open Myanmar branch

U.K-based multinational Unilever has been granted permission to open a branch office in Myanmar.

The Directorate of Investment and Company Administration issued a temporary license to Unilever under services category through the one-stop service system last Wednesday.

Established in 1930, Unilever is a consumer goods company which now distributes over 400 brands to 180 countries. Some of its more famous brands include: Clear, Sunsilk, LUX, Fair & Lovely, POND and Knorr.

The company plans to establish factories and to distribute consumer goods in Myanmar after receiving its license. It has already invited sales agents to distribute its brands in Yangon and Mandalay.

After the European Union lifted economic sanctions, food production companies from the United States and European countries have began doing business in Myanmar by making joint and full investments.
