TechCamp aims to help civil society organisations’ challenges

YANGON—A two-day technology camp (TechCamp) to be held in Yangon next month (January 13-14) will gather technology experts and civil society organizations (CSOs) to brainstorm on how technology can be used to address real world challenges, according to the US Embassy.

“The goal is to increase the digital literacy of CSOs and connect CSOs to local, regional and international technology communities,” said an Embassy official.

The TechCamp, entitled “Technology Unites Us,” will bring together 100-150 representatives from these communities, along with technological and financial management experts, to learn about technology resources available in the country, to explore the challenges facing CSOs, and to develop solutions to these challenges.

The camp will be conducted in English and Burmese with simultaneous translation. The local technology and free speech advocacy organisation, Myanmar ICT for Development Organization (MIDO), is working with the U.S. Embassy to organise the event.

Applications of interest are now welcome from organizations and persons around the country who are working in any sector to improve their communities and are eager to learn new problem-solving techniques.

“To prioritise diversity at the TechCamp, participants will be selected based on responses to a questionnaire. In order to ensure the greatest diversity of participants, we will accept up to two participants representing one CSO,” said a MIDO official.

Travel and accommodation costs will be covered for participants from outside of Yangon.
