Edwin Vanderbruggen, legal advisor to Ooredoo Myanmar, met with Aung Naing Oo, head of the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA) in Nay Pyi Taw on December 9 to discuss the rules and regulations concerning their investment.
Digicel Asia Holdings, a consortium of Digicel Group, announced that it has signed an agreement with Ooredoo Myanmar to develop, construct and lease telecommunications towers in Myanmar.
Ooredoo and Telenor from Norway won two telecommunication licences earlier in June this year and aim to begin providing mobile services soon. Myanmar lags behind its Southeast Asian neighbours in mobile communications as less that 10 percent of the population use mobile phones.
Ooredoo is a leading telecommunication company over the world and has operations in Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Algeria, Tunisia, Palestine and the Maldives.
It has more than 92 millions mobile users and its net income was reached to US$9.3 billion in 2012.
