Myanmar leases booths for international broadcasting channels

Nay Pyi Taw – International media coverage of the upcoming SEA Games is set to go into full swing as media outlets from Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and Indonesia are setting up their operation on location to cover sporting events.

According to press release of Ministry of Information, 20 media booths are located at Mani Yadana Jade Hall and IBC in Nay Pyi Taw. Room charges are US$45,000 per booth and can be used thorough out the SEA Games. Malaysia has taken four booths and Thailand took three booths. The rest has occupied two booths for each.

The authorities have provided enough equipment including tables and chairs, Wi-Fi and the whole video recording of ten of any sports types for each booth and can be negotiated what the international channels needed with extra charges. The video recordings of SEA Games can be sent through communication satellite to international broadcasting channels with payment.

Win Kyi, Director of Ministry of Information said, “We have arranged for the channels to send live recordings of the sports events to overseas broadcasting centres. Other international channels who don’t want to hire booth can be transmitted with charges for live broadcasting. The service charges provided by the government for live broadcasting are very big and we asked the charges only for technical appliances. The charges are asked to cover expenses, to make affordable for international media and to fix price as charged by the previous SEA Games and.”

“We have constructed a small studio at IBC to film live events in a studio for international channels. We have provided three cameras and facilities like a filming studio. They can hire them too,” he continued.

Although Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and Indonesia have hired the broadcasting booths at Mani Yadana Jade Hall, Brunei and Philippines are still not rented.
