Implementation of Myawaddy industrial zone 40% complete

After construction of Asia circular road, the Myawaddy industrial zone which will play in a significant role for economic development is now forty percent complete in construction of basic infrastructure according to the implementation of Myawaddy industrial zone.

Myawaddy is a town in south-eastern Myanmar in Kayin State close to the border with Thailand, the town is most important trading point between Myanmar and Thailand.

“We are construction the zone setting the final stage in March, 2015. We‘ll sell the plot after marking the plot sides. We are going to sell those who really wish to do business. We won’t allow those for selling forgetting profit,” said an official of the zone.

Myawaddy is closely located to Mae Sot in Thailand where about 300,000 Myanmar migrant workers reside. The main objective for implementing the zone is to be able to employ Myanmar migrant workers after 2015. At present, Myanmar workers are working at the zone.

"We have started the Myawaddy industrial zone project since March 2013. Now, we’ve completed 50 percent of earth works. The project will finish in March 2015. There are two major roads in the zone. The total area of the zone is 200 acres including phase 1 and 2. We don’t know what will be the factories doing business here but we have a main drain for waste water. It is about eight feet wide and all the contaminated water will be wasted into Thingun Nyinaung stream after this waste water have been treated,” said Thant Zaw oo of the project engineer.
