“The construction of ships is nearly complete now. The whole project will be finished in May of coming year,” said Myat Thu.
The Indian government presented six, 300-tonne ships for the Kalatan River project. Those ships are docked in the Dhala, Dawpon and Dagon Seikkan dockyards.
The Kalatan River project’s multi-purpose transport project will include a 122-kilometre motorway from Sittwe, the capital of Rakhine State, to the border area of India. There will also be a 158-kilometre water way. By the end of this year, the construction of a bridge will be finished. Road construction will be completed in 2016.
Financing of about US$ 214 million (Ks 211.35 billion) is being provided to carry out development tasks, including US$ 74 million to upgrade the Sittwe Jetty and Kalatan River and about US$ 140 million for the construction of a highway from Palatwa to the Myanmar-India border area.
