China-Myanmar ties highlighted in TV series on Pyu-era love story

A joint Chinese-Myanmar television series based on a popular cultural legend will be broadcast next year in both countries, sources say.

The TV series, which will run at approximately 40 episodes, is based upon the Pyu-era love story about a Myanmar dancer and a Chinese prince. The TV series will depict the cultural exchanges that took place and bilateral relations between two countries, according to an official from Yunnan TV. The TV series is set mainly in China’s Yunnan province and the ancient Myanmar city of Bagan.

“We have completed the shooting. We have also finished other parts, and so we have invited responsible officials from both sides to preview the series for the censors. After that, we can broadcast the series in both countries. It is about China-Myanmar bilateral relations in the Pyu era. We have taken a lot of time to prepare the scripts, costumes, and locations,” said director Thein Tun Aung of Myanmar Motion Pictures.

Lin Gengxin from China acts as the prince and Choo Ja Hyun of South Korea is the lead actress. Myanmar actors also appear in the series.
