The concerned government officials proposed the parliament for taking the loans from South Korea's Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) in order to spend in the projects under the Ministry of Electric Power and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
The Ministry of Electric Power said they planned to borrow US$100 million from EDCF for construction of a 117-mile long 500KV power line between Taungoo and Bago.
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology said they requested the loan for the fibre-optic constructions.
"The Union Ministries must show understanding on the parliament being unable to give the decision off the cuff. This is because on principle the reports from the Joint Bill Committee and the committee who will assess the loans have not been received," said Parliament Speaker Thura Shwe Mann.
Regarding this low-interest loans from South Korea's EDCF, President Thein Sein had also sent a message to the parliament. The Parliament Speaker pledged to discuss the loan in the coming parliamentary session.
"Although the parliament couldn't decide it today, it will try to make the decision in the nearest parliamentary session. The respective committees are required to finish their assessments on time," Thura Shwe Mann said.
