Mobile teams to inspect at Yangon international airport

Mobile teams cracking down on smuggling will inspect warehouses, public places such as Hand Carry, Baggage and Air Cargo at Yangon International Airport in December, according to Win Myint, Chairperson for Central Committee of Illegal Trade Control.

After about one year of taking action against smuggling, the illegal trade has increased to more than US$3 billion officially. Besides the government have more than 7.8 billion Ks from illegal trade and about 4.5 billion Ks from issuing trading cards in border areas, sources from Central Committee of Illegal Trade Control say.

In 2013-2014 fiscal years from April 1 from October 18, foreign trade amount is over US$12 billion and has over US$13 billion until October 25, sources say.

The government has seized more than 7.8 billion Ks from illegal trade from November 1, 2012 to November 7, 2013.

Myanmar has earned about US$6 billion from export and brought back import products worth of US$7.1 billion. The trade deficiency is over US$1 billion.

Myanmar government has planned to earn over US$25 billion from export products [20 percent of the export products from border trade and 80 percent from maritime trade] in this fiscal year. But before five month of the end of fiscal year, Myanmar export trade has only over 51 percent of the government expectation.
