GE offers capacity-building programmes to Myanmar

U.S.-based General Electric (GE), one of the world’s leading firms in energy, health, transportation,and finance, announced on Tuesday that it has offered capacity-building programmes to public and private sector leaders in Myanmar.

For the next four years, GE has committed to training 10 government officials per year through the Asian Policy Leadership Forum (APLF) programme, as part of its US$ 7 million (Ks ) commitment to support broad training and capacity-building projects in Myanmar.

GE is also planning a separate leadership training programme for 50 selected individuals in Myanmar to be held at the Crotonville Leadership Training Centre in Ossining, New York. It is an intensive two-week training programme, focusing on the development of leadership skills in business, government and civil society.

The American company hosted its first APLF at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore last month. The two-day leadership programme, held for 10 government officials from various ministries in Myanmar, focused on competition policy, compliance and corruption control, transparency, and procurement practices in the region.

In September this year, GE held an inaugural workshop for Ministry of Electric Power (MEP) engineers. The workshop focused on increasing productivity and efficiency in existing power plants in Myanmar.

Other corporate programming initiatives GE has undertaken in Myanmar include inviting two Myanmar business leaders to attend the company’s annual Global Customer Summit held at at Crotonville Leadership Training Centre in New York in August this year.
