Myanmar earns more from border trade with Thailand

Myanmar’s border trade with Thailand has also increased in this fiscal year.

The country has earned US$ 352 million from border trade with Thailand till October 11 from April 1 in this fiscal year (2013-14), according to official data.

Recent data from Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs shows it was US$ 141 million up from last year.

In the same period of last fiscal year, their border trade earned just over US$ 211, which was also an up from the previous year.

Myanmar traded with Thailand officially through the official border trade centers such as Tarcheleik, Myawady, Kawthaung, Myeik, Nabulel, Hteekee and Mawtaung.

Myanmar has more border trade centers with Thailand compared to the number with China, with which the country has only four border trade centers such as Muse, Loijai, Kanpeiktee and Chin Shwehaw.

But the country’s trade volume with China is a lot more than that with Thailand despite the number of trade centers.

The country’s trade volume with other countries is expected to reach over US$ 25 billion in this fiscal year.

The authorities are also taking tough measures against illegal trade in order to increase official border trade volume.
