Myanmar's Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries to include rural development

Myanmar's parliament has approved to change the name of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries to include rural development in a parliamentary session held in the capital Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday.

Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries will now be called as Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Rural Development according to the decision.

MPs discussed that among its current duties, the ministry is required to help reduce the poverty level among the rural residents, currently over 70 percent of the country's population. The Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Rural Development will take on this extended function and responsibility.
Ohn Myint, the current minister in charge, said that cooperation between local and international aid organisations and the ministry will be able to provide humanitarian aid to rural people much faster now.
