The number of business
travellers coming to Myanmar has risen by 139% during the first half of
this year, according to official data recently released by Ministry of
Hotels and Tourism.
In total, 71,092 of them passed through
Yangon International Airport to enter the country in the last six
months, the data shows.
Just over 50,000 business travellers visited the country during the same period last year.
Myanmar’s political reforms have so far
attracted more and more tourists to the country as well as travellers
who visited the country to seek business opportunities.
The government has started granting visa-on-arrival to business travellers from 28 countries starting from June 2012.
“We found that more business travellers
have visited the country early this year. And also more tourists visited
the country,” said Aung Din, the managing director for Nature Lovers
Travel Company.
The number of flights landing at Yangon
International Airport has also increased to 5514 during the period from
January to June this year, a significant rise compared with the flights
which amounted to just 3732 last year.
