Mitsubishi-Jalux Inc. has been chosen as the winner of the final tender for a project to upgrade the Mandalay International Airport to an airfreight logistics hub in central Myanmar, the tender selection team announced yesterday.
France’s VINCI Airport was selected as the back-up for the project.
Mitsubishi-Jalux Inc. is a joint venture
between Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation, JALUX Inc and Myanmar’s SPA
Project Management Ltd. The company will turn the Mandalay airport into a
logistic hub for international cargo airplanes.
“The final tender winner
Mitsubishi-Jalux Inc will need to make the economically strategic
Mandalay airport to be able to send air cargoes directly to the other
countries,” said an official from Department of Civil Aviation.
Mitsubishi-Jalux was selected from 7
shortlisted companies in the final round. In the first-round tender,
they submitted a master plan for airport development, including airport
services and cargo-handling processes as well as anticipating future
needs such as extending the airport’s buildings.
