Norway-based Telenor group, one of the recent winners of two telecom operating licenses, is planning to open branches in the major cities such as Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay, according to Telenor reports.
The Telenor Group is a Norwegian multinational telecommunications
company headquartered at Fornebu in Norway and founded in 1855.
It is one of the world’s largest mobile telecommunications companies with operations in Scandinavia, Eastern Europe and Asia.
The Norwegian firm was one of the 11 finalists in the international
bidding for two lucrative concessions by the Myanmar government to build
a nation-wide mobile telecom network. It was grated the licence on June
27 and say it will begin recruiting staff and technical experts in the
near future.
The company is now operating the full range of telecommunication
services in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Serbia, Ukraine, Hungary,
Montenegro, Thailand, Malaysia, Bangladesh, India and Pakistan.
Its major services are Internet Broadband, Mobile Telecommunication,
Internet TV, IPTV and other operations such as fixed line and mobile
telephony, IT services and digital television.
The Telenor will use HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) and LTE-Ready
(Long Term Evolution) technology for Myanmar to match the sophistication
of leading networks around the world today. The company plans to
achieve nationwide coverage in Myanmar within five years providing full
range of mobile services.
