Timber and finished-wood products will no longer need to be checked for export by the Custom Department, according to Myanmar Timber Enterprise Association.
Previously, exporting of timber and its
finished-products needed to be checked at least twice. The first check
is for packaging at the factory and the second is for arrival of the
products at the port.
Both are jointly conducted by the Ministry of Forestry and the Customs Department.
"Exporting timber and its
finished-products now get exemption from checking at the port. The
decision was jointly made by the Department of Forestry and the Customs
Department", an official from the Myanmar Timber Enterprise Association
said.
The move will start on June 1, 2013, it
is reported. Concerning this matter, timber entrepreneurs and Myanmar
Timber Enterprise Association held a meeting on May 20, it is reported.
"Though it is said that custom check is
no longer needed, but if something suspicious happens, they said,
container will be thoroughly searched. According to the new system, the
Department of Forestry will start check on the products. Our products
have to be checked through X-ray system.
In the past the products need to be checked for two times and so it takes a long time. But for now, there is no more time for delay," a timber businessman said.
