Japanese firms Sumitomo Corporation, NEC and NTT Communications have finalized a telecom contract with Myanmar government to build a high-speed fibre-optic network connecting the three major cities of Myanmar, according to Japanese media.
The three companies will construct a
core high-speed network capable of transmitting data at 30 gigabits per
second linking the cities of Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw via the
Web, the Japan Times reported.
They will also set up fiber-optic networks inside each of the three cities to transmit voice and other data at a speed of 10 gigabits per second.
The project is expected to be completed
by the end of November, and an operational support program to enable
Myanmar technicians to utilize the new facilities will take place in
December and January.
The Japanese telecoms outfits will take advantage of a 1.71 billion yen (16.7 million US dollars) grant pledged by the Japanese government to Myanmar in late-December, the companies were quoted by the Japan Times.
The telecom networks will improve the
connectivity in the three most populous cities of Myanmar, and will
serve as a key infrastructure for long-term evolution (LTE) high-speed
wireless communications, fixed-line phone, and Internet services.
