GE proposes upgrading of gas turbines for Myanmar

US General Electric Company offers upgrading of gas turbines to generate more electricity, it was reported.

The current gas turbines have been used for over 30 years. It doesn't generate sufficient capacity. The gas turbines need to be upgraded, according to the electricity workshop.

“About 700 MW electricity generated from the gas turbines has been supplying nine areas.  But it is generating only 350 MW. Upgrading the gas turbines should generate full capacity, the CEO Pyae Wa Tun of Parami Energy Group of Companies said.

“It is nice to upgrade these gas turbines. This is the first time the company offers to the government for upgrading.  The technicians will come and check the necessary requirements for upgrading the gas turbines if the government gives the green light. It will cost a lot to buy a new one. Maintenance and upgrading work saves the cost of the government to some extent. If upgraded, more power will be generated. If the capacity is increased, productivity will also increase”, he added.

Electricity is the important sector for a country and foreign investments also depend on it. In foreign countries, electricity shortage rarely occurs, observers said.
