Myanmar authorities and Japanese organizations inked the agreement yesterday (May 25) to begin implementation the construction of first phase of Thilawa Special Economic Zone in Thanlyan Township of Yangon in October.
"This is the first step of Myanmar-Japan
cooperation. As the first phase of the construction will be implemented
on 400 hectare acres along with developing other infrastructures," the
chairman Win Aung of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Federation of
Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
The special economic zone will develop
into two classes. The class A will include factories and industries for
autos, electronic as well as residential areas with schools, hospitals
and recreation centers. The other class was not mentioned.
"The government has solved the issues
like removing illegal tenant and farmlands. Everything is under control
and the government will provide necessary assistants to those," the
deputy minister Sett Aung of the National Planning and Economic
Development Ministry said.
Thilawa SEZ is one of the major three
special economic zones in Myanmar. It is regarded as the most attractive
SEZ and has the most potential for making business by the international
investor.
