DICA sees surge in company registration under civilian government

The Directorate of Company Administration says more than 5,200 domestic and foreign companies have registered with it since the new government took office in January 2011.

It said that 4,759 domestic and 1,301 foreign companies had registered with it. Most of the foreign companies opened branch or representative offices here for the first time, while most of the new domestic companies were affiliates or units of previously registered companies, the agency said.

More than US$6 billion has been invested by foreign companies under President Thein Sein’s government, raising the amount of cumulative investment by foreign companies in Myanmar to $42 billion, the agency said, adding that the foreign firms were from 32 countries in total.

Domestic companies registered with the agency have invested $1.162 billion over the past two years, the agency said.
