After acquiring cement producer Thang Long Cement from its Vietnamese
owners, Indonesia's cement maker PT Semen Gresik (SMGR) plans a new
plant in Myanmar by the end of 2013.
SMGR president director Dwi
Soetjipto said on Tuesday that the company was now approaching local
partners in Myanmar with a view towards a joint venture and the new
cement plant in Myanmar should be finished by the end of 2013.
The
company intends to improve cement production in Vietnam with a
production target of 2.3 million tons in 2013. “Thang Long produces 1.3
million tons of cement now. We expect to produce a total 28.3 million
tons this year, including 2.3 million tons from Thang Long,” he said.
The
SGMR Group (PT Semen Gresik, PT Semen Tonasa and PT Semen Padang) is
expected to have produced around 22.6 million tons in 2012 to be
increased to 26 million tons this year.
Besides increasing
productivity, SGMR plans to build two new domestic cement works in
Rembang, East Java, and Padang, West Sumatra, both with production
capacity over 2.5 million tons. (cor/iwa)
