Myanmar’s Cooperative Bank (CB) is the
only bank allowed to test the VISA card before other local banks can
start providing the service.
“VISA use started on December 12. Now
the card is under test run and users can try using them with two ATMs at
CB Bank and two more at the airport. The service charge is 5,000
kyats,” Pe Myint, managing director of CB bank, said.
Visa service is also provided by two
other banks--Kanbawza Bank and Myanmar Economic Bank—and more banks will
be using the service in the future. Plans are underway to have the
service available via ATMs of Myanmar banks and hotels and tourist
spots.
A VISA card company announced that the company will also be launching a Mobile Point of Sales system.
VISA is a global payment technology company and its system has been used in 200 countries.
Other similar services in Myanmar are provided by Japan Credit Bureau, UnionPay, and MasterCard.
