Japanese car firm Suzuki is preparing to
invest in Myanmar by building a car assembly plant, officials from the
Department of Investment and Company Administration said.
However, it has yet to register with the
Myanmar Investment Commission despite plans to invest in the Thilawa
Special Economic Zone.
Sources from the business sector, meanwhile, said Suzuki is eyeing partnership with a local company.
“I heard that they are going to work
together with a local car assembly company. We don’t know exactly the
name but I heard that it is assumed to be Ever Smile Group. I heard that
they didn’t apply officially yet,” a businessman from the Myanmar
Automobiles Production and Traders Association said.
