Some European buyers have expressed their interest to import plastic shopping bags from Myanmar, according to local company.
“Some buyers came here and discussed
with us about importing plastic bags. They need shopping bags,” said Hla
Win, managing director of Lucky Bird which produces plastic bags.
He however pointed out that local
companies do not have the skilled workers, electricity and plants at
this moment to meet the demand of the buyers.
Lucky Bird is now in talks with some
Japanese companies for exporting plastic bags. On December 3, the
company dispatched 13 tonnes plastic bags to Japan, which will be used
for wrapping kitchen utensils, sources said.
“If they like the quality, the Japanese
companies will order shopping bags and big packs. We sent them our
samples thrice and they liked the quality,” said Hla Win.
